Product Description

125mm VIT-Smooth 90° Equal Tee with Removable Cap

Model: 67-125-035

The 125mm VIT-Smooth equal tee with cap creates a 90-degree connection within a compatible single-wall flue system. It is commonly used when connecting the rear outlet of an appliance to a vertical 125mm stove-pipe route.

The horizontal branch connects towards the appliance, while the upper connection continues into the vertical flue. A removable cap fits at the base of the tee to provide access for inspection and chimney sweeping.

Made from 1.2mm zero-carbon steel, the tee has a powder vitreous enamel coating on its internal and external surfaces. Therefore, it provides a durable, heat-resistant fitting with a smooth matt black finish.

What Is an Equal Flue Tee?

An equal tee has connections of the same nominal diameter. On this model, the branch and vertical connections suit compatible 125mm VIT-Smooth components.

The 90-degree branch allows the flue route to turn from a horizontal appliance connection into a vertical pipe. The capped lower section provides access beneath the branch.

However, equal diameter does not guarantee compatibility with every appliance outlet. Stove spigots and flue components can use different joint profiles, so a suitable adaptor may still be required.

Connecting a Rear-Outlet Appliance

This tee is commonly installed behind a compatible appliance with a rear flue outlet. The branch connects towards the appliance, while the main section continues vertically towards the chimney system.

The removable cap remains at the bottom of the tee. This arrangement gives a chimney sweep direct access beneath the vertical pipe and provides a point where soot or other deposits can be removed.

The appliance instructions must permit the rear-outlet arrangement, 125mm flue diameter and proposed connecting components. A competent installer should confirm every connection before ordering.

What Is the Removable Tee Cap Used For?

The cap closes the lower opening during normal operation. Once the appliance and flue have cooled, a competent person can remove it to inspect and sweep the vertical flue route.

The base may also collect a small amount of soot or other deposits that fall from the chimney during sweeping. Therefore, the cap can simplify routine cleaning around the base of the vertical pipe.

However, it is not designed as a general waste container or condensate trap. The complete chimney must manage combustion deposits and moisture in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Why Choose a Tee Instead of a 90° Elbow?

A standard 90-degree elbow changes the flue direction but does not provide direct access beneath the vertical pipe. In contrast, this tee includes a removable base cap that can make inspection and sweeping easier.

This feature often makes a tee-and-cap arrangement useful behind a rear-outlet appliance. Nevertheless, it occupies more vertical space below the branch than a closed elbow.

The installer must confirm which fitting suits the appliance, available space and required cleaning route.

Planning the Installation

Check the dimensional drawing before setting out the appliance and chimney route. The distance between the horizontal branch, base cap and upper connection can affect the height and position of the completed system.

Leave enough space below the tee to remove the cap and use suitable sweeping equipment. Do not position the cap directly against the appliance, hearth, wall or another obstruction.

The vertical pipe above the tee must remain correctly supported. Do not rely on the appliance spigot or horizontal branch to carry the full weight of the chimney system.

Why Choose VIT-Smooth?

VIT-Smooth combines robust steel construction with a carefully finished vitreous enamel surface. Its discreet welds and matt black finish create a clean appearance for visible stove-pipe installations.

Furthermore, the internal and external enamel coating helps protect the steel against heat, combustion gases and corrosive deposits. The finish complements many traditional and contemporary heating appliances.

Suitable Applications

  • Compatible rear-outlet wood-burning stoves
  • Compatible rear-outlet multifuel stoves
  • Suitable gas heating appliances
  • Suitable oil-fired appliances
  • 125mm VIT-Smooth connecting-flue systems
  • Horizontal-to-vertical flue transitions
  • Installations requiring access beneath a vertical pipe
  • Visible single-wall stove-pipe installations
  • Connections leading towards a suitable chimney system

Positioning the Removable Cap

The cap must remain visible, unobstructed and easy to remove. Allow enough room beneath and around the tee for a competent person to open it and insert suitable cleaning equipment.

Do not install the cap inside a concealed space or permanent enclosure. In addition, do not place it where soot released during opening could damage nearby furnishings or finishes.

Before using the appliance, ensure the cap is correctly fitted, fully seated and secure.

Tee-Cap Safety

The removable cap must remain correctly fitted whenever the appliance operates. Never light or use the appliance with the cap loose, damaged or missing.

Allow the appliance and chimney to cool fully before removing the cap. Hot flue gases, soot and other deposits may cause burns or create a fire risk.

After inspection or cleaning, clean the mating surfaces and refit the cap correctly. Replace damaged closing or sealing components before returning the appliance to service.

Installation Direction

Install the tee in the intended orientation, with the cap at the bottom, the appliance branch entering from the side and the main flue continuing upwards.

The remaining system connections should keep their smaller or male ends pointing downwards towards the appliance. This arrangement helps contain condensate and combustion deposits within the flue route.

Do not invert the tee or use the capped branch as the upper flue connection. Follow the latest VIT-Smooth dimensional and installation guidance.

Jointing and Sealing

Compatible VIT-Smooth components use close-fitting connections. Consequently, jointing compound is not automatically required at every correctly assembled joint.

However, the appliance and flue manufacturers determine the approved sealing method. Only use suitable fire cement, high-temperature sealant or another jointing product when the current instructions permit it.

Do not seal the removable cap permanently. It must remain functional and accessible for future inspection and sweeping.

Installation and Safety Information

Use VIT-Smooth only as a single-wall connecting flue between a compatible appliance and a suitable chimney, flexible liner or insulated twin-wall system. Never use this tee to pass through a wall, ceiling, roof or concealed void.

Maintain at least the declared 375mm distance from combustible materials. These may include timber, furniture, combustible wall finishes and some plasterboard constructions. Follow any greater clearance required by the appliance manufacturer.

The tee and cap must remain exposed and accessible. Do not box them in or position them where future inspection and maintenance become impossible.

The tee must not support the full weight of a flexible liner or chimney system. Use suitable system supports to prevent damaging loads on the joints and appliance outlet.

A competent installer should design and fit the complete system. For solid-fuel work, use a suitably qualified installer, such as a HETAS-registered installer, or notify Building Control where required.

Finally, follow the appliance instructions, current VIT-Smooth guidance and applicable Building Regulations. The appliance manufacturer’s instructions determine the permitted flue diameter and connection arrangement.

Inspection and Maintenance

A competent person should inspect and clean the complete chimney regularly. The correct frequency depends on the appliance, fuel, level of use and chimney condition.

The removable cap provides useful access at the base of the vertical flue. Nevertheless, the sweep must confirm that their equipment can reach every necessary section of the system.

Use suitable cleaning equipment that will not damage the vitreous enamel. During maintenance, inspect the cap, tee and adjoining joints for movement, corrosion, distortion or enamel damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are the connections on this tee?

The tee has a nominal 125mm diameter, equivalent to approximately five inches. Its connections suit compatible 125mm VIT-Smooth components.

What does “equal tee” mean?

It means the branch and main flue connections have the same nominal diameter. In this case, they are designed around the compatible 125mm system.

Is the base cap included?

Yes. The product includes the removable cap used to close the lower opening and provide maintenance access.

What is the cap used for?

It provides access beneath the vertical pipe for inspection, sweeping and removal of deposits. The cap must remain correctly fitted whenever the appliance operates.

Can I use this tee on the rear outlet of a stove?

It commonly suits compatible rear-outlet arrangements. However, the appliance manufacturer must permit the 125mm diameter and proposed connection method.

Will it connect directly to every 125mm stove outlet?

No. Appliance spigots may have different dimensions and joint profiles. A suitable stove adaptor may be required.

Can the tee cap remain open while the stove operates?

No. The cap must remain securely fitted whenever the appliance operates. An open or loose cap may allow dangerous combustion gases to enter the room.

Does the cap guarantee full chimney-sweeping access?

No. It provides access at the base of the tee, but the installer and chimney sweep must confirm that all relevant sections of the complete system remain reachable.

Is a tee better than a 90-degree elbow?

It may provide better sweeping access for some rear-outlet arrangements because the removable cap sits below the vertical pipe. However, the correct fitting depends on the appliance and chimney design.

What is the maximum operating temperature?

The tee carries a T600 classification. Therefore, its maximum continuous operating temperature is 600°C. Always observe any lower limit specified by the appliance manufacturer.
