Product Description
Fernox Hawk White Jointing Compound 400g
Product Code: 61024
Create secure pipe joints with Fernox Hawk White Jointing Compound 400g. This ready-to-use pipe-jointing paste suits general plumbing, heating and gas applications when used in line with the Fernox instructions.
Hawk White works with natural gas, LPG, non-potable water, low-pressure steam, air, brine and alcohol. In addition, you can use it without reinforcing fibre on suitable pipework up to 25mm.
For pipework above 25mm, Fernox requires an approved reinforcing fibre. Therefore, always check the pipe size, operating pressure and service before starting work.
Important: Fernox Hawk White is not suitable for potable or drinking water. Use Fernox Water Hawk for potable-water applications.

Suitable Applications
Fernox Hawk White suits general pipe-jointing work across several compatible services. Typical applications include:
- Natural gas pipework
- LPG pipework
- Non-potable water systems
- Low-pressure steam services
- Compressed-air systems, excluding medical lines
- Compatible brine systems

Always confirm the operating temperature, pressure and fluid before use. Furthermore, follow any regulations that apply to the installation.
Not Suitable for Drinking Water
Do not use Fernox Hawk White on potable or drinking-water systems. Although the compound suits non-potable water, Fernox does not list it for wholesome-water applications.
Use Fernox Water Hawk Jointing Compound where the joint will come into contact with hot or cold potable water. Water Hawk is the WRAS-approved product within this part of the Fernox range.
Pipe Sizes and Reinforcing Fibre
You can use Hawk White alone on suitable pipework with a diameter of up to 25mm. However, pipework above 25mm requires an approved reinforcing fibre.
The reinforcing material supports the compound and helps form a secure joint on larger pipe sizes. Therefore, always select a fibre that suits both the Fernox compound and the intended service.
Fernox also notes that no British Standard exists for testing this type of jointing compound on pipes above 50mm. As a result, seek technical guidance before using it on larger pipework.
BS EN 751-2 Class A Compliance
Fernox Hawk White complies with BS EN 751-2 Class A under the manufacturer’s stated conditions and when used with approved reinforcing fibre where required.
The classification covers sealing materials for metallic threaded joints in contact with first, second and third-family gases. However, compliance depends on correct product selection and application.
- Gas applications: up to 5 bar and 70°C under the stated conditions
- Non-potable water applications: up to 7 bar and 130°C under the stated conditions
Always follow the latest Fernox technical data and the regulations that apply to the installation.
How to Use Fernox Hawk White
- First, isolate the relevant pipework or service.
- Make sure the joint is clean and suitable for the compound.
- Remove dirt, oil and loose material from the threads.
- Stir the compound if required by the instructions on the tin.
- Apply Hawk White evenly to the relevant joint surfaces.
- Add an approved reinforcing fibre where the pipe size or application requires it.
- Assemble and tighten the joint correctly.
- Remove any excess compound from the outside of the fitting.
- Test the completed joint using the correct method for the service.
- Replace the lid firmly after use.
Do not return the system to service until you have completed all required strength and tightness checks.
Gas Installation Guidance
Only a suitably qualified and legally authorised engineer should work on natural-gas or LPG installations.
In the UK, businesses and engineers carrying out gas work must hold the correct Gas Safe registration for the work involved. Therefore, do not attempt gas-pipe installation or repair unless you have the required competence and registration.
The installer must also test the completed installation according to current gas-safety requirements.

- Use the compound in a well-ventilated area
