Why Choose a Direct Unvented Cylinder?

A direct cylinder uses electric immersion heaters to heat the stored water. Therefore, it does not rely on a gas boiler, oil boiler or primary heating coil.

The unvented design connects to the incoming mains water supply. As a result, it can provide strong hot water flow to compatible taps and showers without needing a cold-water storage tank in the loft.

However, the available flow rate depends on the incoming mains water pressure, available flow and pipework design. Your installer should test the water supply before choosing the cylinder.

Pre-Plumbed and Pre-Wired Design

OSO fits the main valves, expansion equipment, electrical connections and internal pipework at the factory. Therefore, the installer has fewer loose components to position and connect on site.

OSO states that the S2X design can save several hours of labour during a typical installation. In addition, the included first-fix template allows work to begin before the cylinder arrives on site.

Once installed, the removable lid hides the main pipework and valve gear. This creates a clean finish while keeping the components accessible for servicing.

Single Titanium Immersion Heater

The S2X 120 uses one 3kW titanium immersion heater. Titanium offers strong resistance to corrosion and suits use in hard-water areas when the cylinder receives the correct installation and maintenance.

Please note that larger S2X models use twin immersion heaters. However, the 120-litre model has one immersion heater only.

Hot Water Blending Valve

The cylinder stores water at a high temperature and uses its factory-fitted blending valve to mix the outgoing hot water with cold water. This arrangement helps the compact cylinder provide a greater usable quantity of hot water.

The installer must commission and check the blending valve. They must also confirm safe outlet temperatures throughout the property.
