Product Description

MI-FLEX Screw-FIX Rain Cap 125mm

Part Number: 25-125-RC

Finish a compatible flexible chimney liner with the MI-FLEX Screw-FIX Rain Cap 125mm. This stainless-steel terminal fits at the top of a 125mm flexible flue liner and helps reduce direct rain entry.

The Screw-FIX connection offers a quick and simple fitting method. First, place the cap onto the liner. Then, turn it until the connection feels secure. Therefore, you do not need to drill the liner or use separate fixing screws.

This rain cap suits compatible 125mm MI-FLEX flexible flue liner. However, it does not support the weight of the liner. You must use a suitable top plate and top clamp as part of the installation.

Please note: This product fits compatible flexible flue liner. It does not fit twin-wall insulated chimney systems or single-wall stove pipe.

What Does a Flue Liner Rain Cap Do?

A rain cap sits at the top of the chimney liner. Its main purpose is to help limit the amount of rain that can fall directly into the flue.

As a result, it helps protect the liner and the connected appliance from excess water entry. At the same time, its open design allows the flue gases to leave the chimney.

However, a rain cap does not solve problems caused by poor chimney design or a damaged stack. Therefore, a competent installer should check the complete chimney before fitting the terminal.

How Does the Screw-FIX Connection Work?

The Screw-FIX design connects directly to a compatible MI-FLEX liner. The installer turns the terminal onto the liner until it reaches a firm and secure position.

Therefore, the installation does not need separate screws, clamps or cement at the rain-cap connection. This fitting method can save time and create a neat finish at the top of the chimney.

However, the installer must still secure and support the liner correctly. The rain cap acts as a terminal only and must not carry the liner’s weight.

Top Plate and Clamp Required

Use this Screw-FIX rain cap with a suitable top plate and top clamp. The plate covers the chimney opening, while the clamp supports the flexible liner.

The installer should secure the top clamp to the liner above the plate. As a result, the clamp carries the liner and prevents it from dropping into the chimney.

The exact fixing method will depend on the chimney stack, liner and complete system design. Therefore, always follow the MI-FLEX installation instructions.

Compatibility

This rain cap fits a compatible 125mm MI-FLEX flexible flue liner. It may form part of a correctly designed chimney system for a suitable appliance and fuel.

Before ordering, check all of the following:

  • The flexible liner has a 125mm internal diameter
  • The liner uses the compatible MI-FLEX profile
  • The liner grade suits the appliance and fuel
  • The appliance manufacturer allows a 125mm flue
  • The chimney design allows this type of open rain cap
  • A suitable top plate and top clamp will support the liner

Flexible liners from different manufacturers can use different profiles and connection methods. Therefore, do not assume that this cap will fit another brand of liner.

Not Suitable For

  • Twin-wall insulated chimney pipe
  • Single-wall vitreous enamel stove pipe
  • Rigid stainless-steel chimney systems
  • Unsupported flexible liner installations
  • A different liner size or connection profile

Installation Guidance

  • Confirm the liner diameter before ordering
  • Check that the liner and cap use the same MI-FLEX system
  • Sweep and inspect the chimney before installation
  • Check that the chimney stack remains sound
  • Install a suitable top plate and top clamp
  • Make sure the clamp supports the liner correctly
  • Turn the rain cap onto the liner until secure
  • Keep the terminal level and correctly positioned
  • Follow the appliance and liner instructions
  • Check the chimney after installation

A competent installer should fit the flexible liner and terminal. For solid-fuel systems, use a HETAS-registered installer where required.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Check the rain cap during each chimney service. Remove soot, leaves and other debris that could restrict the flue outlet.

In addition, check that the Screw-FIX connection remains secure. The installer or chimney sweep should also inspect the liner support, top plate and clamp.

Solid-fuel chimneys need regular sweeping. Therefore, follow the appliance manufacturer’s servicing advice and arrange sweeping as often as the fuel and usage require.

Check Before Ordering

  • Confirm that you need a 125mm rain cap
  • Check that your liner uses the MI-FLEX Screw-FIX system
  • Confirm that the terminal suits the appliance and fuel
  • Order a suitable top plate if required
  • Order a suitable top clamp if required
  • Do not use this product with twin-wall or single-wall pipe
  • Ask your installer to approve the complete chimney design
