Application

This 90° bend changes the direction of a compatible 125mm TWPro insulated chimney. For example, it may suit a correctly designed connection or chimney route where the system needs a sharp change in direction.

It can form part of a suitable flue system serving:

Planning a 90° Change in Direction

A 90° bend creates more resistance to flue gases than a straight pipe or a shallower bend. Therefore, the installer must make sure the full chimney still provides the correct draught.

Approved Document J treats one factory-made 90° bend as two 45° changes of direction when assessing the chimney route and sweeping access. As a result, this component can use two of the permitted changes within a flue design.

Where possible, keep the chimney route simple and vertical. If the design requires this bend, make sure the position allows safe inspection and cleaning.

Inspection and Sweeping Access

A sharp change in direction can collect soot and debris. Therefore, the complete chimney system must provide suitable access for regular inspection and sweeping.

Depending on the installation, you may need an access component near the bend. A suitably qualified installer or chimney sweep should be able to reach and clean every part of the flue route.

Offset and Dimensions

Check the product dimensions before ordering. The exact space required depends on the bend dimensions, connecting pipe lengths and position of the other chimney components.

Distance to Combustible Materials

Under its T600 G50 classification, the TWPro insulated chimney must remain at least 50mm away from combustible materials.

Measure this distance from the outside surface of the bend. Also, remember that the curved section may sit closer to nearby timber, walls or roof parts than the straight pipe sections.

Another part of the appliance or chimney system may require a larger gap. Therefore, always follow the largest distance stated in the complete installation instructions.

Installation Guidance

• First, check that a 90° bend suits the appliance and chimney design
• Confirm that the bend position meets current Building Regulations
• Keep the chimney route as short and simple as possible
• Plan suitable access for inspection and sweeping
• Push each connecting component fully into the joint
• Fit the supplied locking band correctly
• Support the chimney on both sides of the change where required
• Do not allow the bend to carry unsupported chimney weight
• Maintain at least 50mm from combustible materials
• Check the completed system for correct alignment and support
• Finally, follow the appliance and TWPro installation instructions

A suitably competent installer should design and fit the complete system. For solid-fuel installations, use a HETAS-registered installer where appropriate.

Compatibility

This bend fits the 125mm TWPro and matching KW Flue systems only. Other twin-wall chimney brands use different joints, outside diameters and locking methods. Therefore, do not mix this bend with another system unless the manufacturer confirms compatibility.

The 125mm size refers to the internal flue diameter. TWPro uses 25mm of insulation around the inner casing. As a result, the bend has an outside diameter of approximately 175mm.
