Product Description

125mm VIT-Smooth 45° Split Trim Ring

Model: 67-125-092

The 125mm VIT-Smooth 45° split trim ring creates a neat decorative finish around a 125mm flue pipe where it enters a suitable non-combustible wall or register plate at a 45-degree angle.

Also known as a split rosette collar, the trim comes in two separate sections. Therefore, an installer can fit it around an existing flue pipe without dismantling the complete installation.

Its powder vitreous enamel coating provides a smooth matt black finish that coordinates with compatible VIT-Smooth stove pipe. However, this product is a decorative finishing accessory only. It does not form or seal the flue joint, support the pipe or make a wall penetration suitable.

What Is a Split Trim Ring Used For?

Cutting an opening for an angled flue pipe can leave an uneven or unfinished edge. This trim ring fits around the pipe and covers that edge, creating a cleaner transition between the flue and the surrounding surface.

Because the collar separates into two pieces, it can fit around a pipe that is already in position. This makes it particularly useful for completing or improving the appearance of an existing installation.

Why Is the Trim Ring Angled?

A standard rosette collar normally suits a pipe that enters a surface squarely. However, this model has a profile designed for a 125mm pipe passing through the relevant surface at approximately 45 degrees.

The angled shape helps the collar sit neatly against the surface while surrounding the sloping pipe. Before ordering, confirm both the pipe diameter and its angle because a standard 90-degree trim ring will not create the same fit.

Two-Part Retrofit Design

The split design allows the installer to place one section on each side of the pipe and bring them together. Consequently, the pipe normally does not need to be disconnected merely to add the decorative trim.

However, the installer should check the fixing method and available space before assembly. The two sections must sit evenly against the supporting surface without placing pressure on the flue pipe.

Why Choose a VIT-Smooth Trim Ring?

The VIT-Smooth range uses a smooth matt black finish designed to complement many modern and traditional stoves. Therefore, using a matching trim ring can provide a more consistent appearance across the visible installation.

The vitreous enamel finish also creates a durable and easy-to-maintain surface. Nevertheless, the collar remains a decorative accessory and should not be treated as a structural, fire-protection or flue-sealing component.

Suitable Applications

  • Compatible 125mm VIT-Smooth stove pipe
  • Five-inch connecting flue pipe
  • Pipe entering a suitable register plate at 45 degrees
  • Pipe meeting a suitable non-combustible surface at 45 degrees
  • New stove and chimney installations
  • Retrofitting around existing flue pipe
  • Covering untidy or oversized finishing cuts
  • Improving the appearance of visible flue installations

Important Installation Limitations

This trim ring does not make it acceptable for single-wall stove pipe to pass through a combustible wall, ceiling, roof or concealed void. VIT-Smooth single-wall pipe must only be used where the complete installation and manufacturer’s instructions permit it.

Only fit the collar against a suitable non-combustible surface or register plate. The installer must confirm that the wall, plate, penetration and surrounding construction provide the required fire protection.

The trim ring does not provide an insulated wall sleeve, fire stop, support, weather seal or structural connection. If the pipe passes through a building element, the installation may require a specifically designed insulated chimney component and other approved parts.

Does the Trim Ring Seal the Flue?

No. The trim ring only conceals the visible gap around the pipe. It does not form part of the flue-gas seal and should not be used to repair a leaking or poorly assembled connection.

The flue pipe and its joints must remain correctly connected, secure and gas-tight independently of the collar. Do not rely on the trim or decorative sealant to hold the pipe in position.

Does the Trim Ring Provide Fire Protection?

No. Although the collar is intended for suitable non-combustible surfaces, it does not create the required clearance from combustible materials and does not convert a combustible wall into a safe flue penetration.

The complete installation must maintain all required clearances and follow the appliance instructions, chimney-system guidance and applicable Building Regulations.

Installation Guidance

Before fitting the trim, confirm that the 125mm pipe, 45-degree angle and surrounding surface match the product. The surface should be sound, flat enough to support the collar and made from suitable non-combustible material.

Position the two sections around the pipe and align them carefully. Secure the collar using a suitable method for the register plate or wall material, following the current manufacturer instructions.

Do not drill into or damage the flue pipe. In addition, do not force the collar against the pipe or use it to correct poor alignment.

A competent installer should design and fit the complete flue and chimney system. For solid-fuel installations, use a suitably qualified installer, such as a HETAS-registered installer, or notify Building Control where required.

Care and Maintenance

Allow the installation to cool fully before cleaning the trim ring. Wipe the surface gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, wire brushes and harsh chemicals because they may mark the matt black enamel. During routine chimney inspections, check that the collar remains secure and that the surrounding surface shows no signs of heat damage or movement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size flue pipe does this trim ring fit?

It is designed for compatible 125mm pipe, equivalent to approximately five inches. Check the actual pipe diameter and system before ordering.

Why is this trim ring designed for a 45-degree angle?

Its angled opening suits a flue pipe that meets a register plate or suitable non-combustible surface at approximately 45 degrees.

Is the trim ring supplied in two parts?

Yes. Its two-part split construction allows it to fit around an existing pipe without dismantling the complete flue installation.

Can I retrofit it around an installed flue pipe?

Yes, provided the pipe measures 125mm, runs at the correct angle and meets a suitable surface. Confirm that there is enough room to position and secure both sections.

Does this collar support the flue pipe?

No. It is a decorative finishing accessory and must not support the pipe or any part of the chimney system. Use suitable system supports where required.

Does the trim ring seal the flue joint?

No. It only covers the visible opening around the pipe. The flue and all its joints must remain secure and gas-tight without relying on the collar.

Can I use it on a combustible wall?

No. This trim is intended for a suitable non-combustible wall or register plate. It does not provide insulation or make a combustible wall penetration safe.

Can it be used where stove pipe passes through a ceiling?

No. The trim ring is not a ceiling penetration component or fire stop. Single-wall connecting flue must not pass through ceilings, roofs, combustible walls or concealed spaces.

Is this the same as a standard flat trim ring?

No. This model suits a pipe running at 45 degrees. A standard trim ring normally suits a pipe meeting the surface squarely, so check the installation angle carefully.

Is it part of the flue-gas-carrying system?

No. The trim surrounds the outside of the flue pipe and provides a decorative finish. Flue gases do not pass through the trim ring itself.

Who should fit this trim ring?

A competent installer should fit it as part of a properly designed flue installation. For solid-fuel work, consider using a HETAS-registered installer or arranging Building Control notification where required.

Manufacturers may update specifications and installation guidance. Therefore, check the latest VIT-Smooth literature and confirm the pipe diameter, angle and surrounding construction before ordering.
