This non-combustible fire cement is ideal for installing and repairing compatible fires, stoves, fireplaces and heating appliances. Furthermore, its black finish blends neatly with many traditional stove and fireplace components.

Suitable Applications

Use this black fire cement for suitable sealing, assembly and repair work around high-temperature heating appliances. Typical applications include:

Always check the appliance manufacturer’s instructions before applying the cement. In addition, use a suitably qualified engineer for any work involving a gas or oil appliance.

Surface Preparation

1. First, make sure the appliance is completely cold and out of use.
2. Remove loose material, old cement, soot and dust from the repair area.
3. Thoroughly clean and degrease every surface that you plan to bond or seal.
4. Lightly abrade smooth surfaces where suitable to improve the mechanical key.
5. Finally, make sure the prepared area is clean before applying the cement.

How to Apply Black Fire Cement

1. Apply the fire cement directly from the tub to each prepared surface.
2. Complete any shaping or tooling within 5–10 minutes.
3. Press the components together with moderate, even pressure.
4. Make sure the cement fully contacts and wets each bonding surface.
5. Secure the components in position while the cement sets.
6. Remove spills immediately before the cement begins to harden.
7. Clean tools and application equipment with warm water straight after use.

Drying and Curing

Because this product is water based, it must dry and dehydrate fully before exposure to normal operating temperatures. At room temperature and average humidity, allow approximately 36–48 hours for a typical application to cure.

However, curing time can vary depending on the temperature, humidity, surface porosity, joint depth and amount of cement used. Larger or deeper repairs may require more time.

You can accelerate the final curing stage with gentle and progressive heat. However, do not exceed 100°C during curing, as excessive heat may cause cracking or product failure.

Cleaning and Removal

Clean uncured fire cement from tools and surrounding surfaces immediately with warm water. Once cured, the cement becomes much harder to remove.

Where appropriate, steam or boiling water may help remove cured material. A high-pH cleaning solution may also assist removal, although you should first confirm that it will not damage the surrounding surface.
