How to Apply Vitcas Black Fire Cement

  1. First, make sure the appliance and surrounding surfaces are completely cold.
  2. Remove dirt, dust, grease, rust and loose material from the joint.
  3. Lightly abrade smooth surfaces where appropriate to improve the mechanical key.
  4. Dampen the application surface lightly.
  5. Cut the top from the cartridge and attach the nozzle.
  6. Trim the nozzle to produce the required bead size.
  7. Fit the cartridge into a standard sealant gun.
  8. Apply the cement directly into the joint or repair area.
  9. Tool and smooth the cement within 5 to 10 minutes.
  10. Apply moderate pressure to ensure firm contact with each surface.
  11. Clean any unwanted material before it sets.
  12. Finally, allow the cement to dry and cure before using the appliance.

Drying and Curing

Drying and curing times can vary according to the temperature, humidity, joint depth and surrounding materials. As a guide, the manufacturer states a drying time of approximately four to five hours at 20°C.

After the initial drying period, gradually introduce gentle heat. Do not heat the appliance too quickly because rapid temperature changes may damage the repair. Once cured, inspect the joint and fill any fine cracks with additional fire cement if required.

Cleaning After Application

Clean tools and unwanted material promptly, before the fire cement sets. Once cured, the cement becomes hard and removal will become more difficult.

Important Installation Information

  • Only apply the cement when the appliance is completely cold
  • Clean and prepare every surface before application
