Vitcas specially formulates HRTA for high-temperature areas where ordinary tile adhesives may fail over time. Therefore, it provides a practical solution for tiling around compatible fireplaces, boilers, ranges, cookers and radiators.

Suitable Applications

Use Vitcas Heat Resistant Tile Adhesive to fix compatible tiles in areas that experience higher temperatures than standard tile adhesive can withstand. Typical applications include:

Please note: The adhesive does not provide structural support. Therefore, you must physically support heavy stone, granite, marble or slate until the installation can safely carry its weight.

Thin-Bed Application

Vitcas HRTA works best as a thin-bed adhesive with a maximum finished thickness of 3mm. This thin application helps prevent a replacement tile from standing proud of the surrounding tiles.

If the wall is uneven or requires an adhesive bed thicker than 3mm, use a suitable alternative such as Vitcas HB60 rather than building up a thick layer of HRTA.

Surface Preparation

1. First, make sure the surface is cool, clean, dry and free from dust.
2. Remove grease, loose material, old adhesive and other contamination.
3. Check that the surface is sound and suitable for tiling.
4. Seal fresh cement or plaster with Vitcas PVA Adhesive Sealer before applying HRTA.
5. Seal the back of porous tiles, marble, granite or slate with Vitcas PVA Adhesive Sealer.
6. Allow the sealer to dry in line with its application instructions.

Correct surface preparation is important because fresh or porous materials can draw moisture from the adhesive. As a result, an unsealed surface may weaken the final bond.

How to Apply Vitcas HRTA

1. Make sure the tiled area and appliance are completely cold.
2. Insert the cartridge into a suitable cartridge gun.
3. Cut the cartridge nozzle to the required opening.
4. Apply the adhesive evenly to the prepared surface.
5. Spread or comb the adhesive where required to create an even bed.
6. Press the tile firmly into position.
7. Adjust the tile while the adhesive remains workable.
8. Keep the finished adhesive bed no thicker than 3mm.
9. Physically support heavy materials where necessary.
10. Remove surplus adhesive immediately with a clean, damp cloth.

Drying Guidance

The adhesive will normally dry overnight under suitable conditions. However, drying time can vary depending on the temperature, humidity, surface porosity, tile type and thickness of the adhesive bed.

Allow the adhesive to dry before exposing the tiled area to normal operating temperatures. Where suitable, gentle heat after the initial drying period may help complete the curing process. Always follow the product instructions.
